Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran
The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran〔(قانون )〕〔http://mellat.majlis.ir/archive/CONSTITUTION/ENGLISH.HTM〕 was adopted by referendum on 2 and 3 December 1979, and went into force replacing the Constitution of 1905.〔(Constitutional Background ) ''Hauser Global Law School Program''〕 It was amended on July 28, 1989.〔(Constitutional Background )〕 The constitution has been called a "hybrid" of "theocratic and democratic elements". While articles One and Two vest sovereignty in God, article six "mandates popular elections for the presidency and the Majlis, or parliament." (詳細はMehdi Bazargan in June 1979 was modeled on the 1958 constitution of the French Fifth Republic.
